Objectives and Activities

Objectives of the action
• Protecting and restoring livelihoods and food security for conflict affected Syrians through support to household livelihoods
• Eco-system restoration intervention through:
1-Establishing and maintaining trails to raise awareness and empower ecotourism.
2-Thinning for forest conservation, reduce fire risk and assist in generating additional shredded biomass to be transformed to briquettes.
3- Enhance landscape resilience to climate change through reforestation.
4- Building capacity through workshops and training sessions.
Target group (s) Targeted participants: 260 participants from vulnerable families, including Lebanese and Syrian, men and women.

Targeted villages: Ten municipalities of the Shouf Biosphere Reserve (Niha, Jbaa, Mrusti, Khraibeh, Maasser El Shouf, Barouk, Ain-Zhalta/Bmohray, Batloun, Botmeh and Qeb Elias),

Main activities Forest and Biomass Management

Estimated Results
Result 1: Twenty seven hectares (27 ha) forested/restored in the municipalities of Niha, Jbaa, Barouk, Maasser El Shouf and Ain-Zhalta/Bmohray
Result 2: Mulching and Irrigation of hundred and fifteen hectares (115 ha) in the municipalities of Niha, Jbaa, Barouk, Maasser El Shouf and Ain-Zhalta/Bmohray and seven fenced plots in Fraidis
Result 3: Thinning of fifteen hectares (15 ha) in Botmeh, Batloun and Maasser El Shouf
Result 4: Production of a hundred and fifty tons (115 tons) of briquettes in Simi Plant.
Result 5: Establishing thirty three kilometers (33 km) of trails in Batloun and Qeb Elias and maintaining a total of a hundred and fifty kilometers (150 km) of trails in the whole reserve.
Result 6: Capacity building through workshops and training sessions on sustainability and climate change for all the participants.
