Natural Heritage

The reserve hosts 32 species of wild mammals of which 9 are considered to be rare at the international level (wolves, hyenas, etc.). 270 species of birds, 19 are considered rare at the national level, 27 species of reptiles and Amphibians, 2 of which are considered to be rare at
the national level (Lacerta kulzeri, Elaphe quatuorlineata) and 520 species of plants of which 12 are considered rare at the national level plus the medicinal plants (30 species), edible and aromatic plants (50 species).

Plants
The Reserve includes 500 species of plants, 30 species bearing a specifically Leb­anese designation (Berberis libanotica, Geranium libani, Dianthus libanotis...), 25 species are nationally and globally threatened species (Orchis anatolica, Medi­cago sativa, Trifolium physodes...), 50 endemic species (Tulipa aucheriana westii, Silene makmeliana...), 12 rare species ( Lathyrus libani, Bromus japonicus...), 30 medicinal species (Rheum ribes, Sambucus ebullus...), 50 edible species (Gunde­lia tournefortii, Cichorium pumilum...). in addition to many aromatic plants.

 
     
 

Trees
The Reserve includes 24 species of Trees in addition to the Lebanese Cedar.

 
     
 

Mammals
The Reserve includes 32 species of Mammals,12 globally threatened species(Budger, Wolf,...), 3 locally threatened species (Wolf,Hyaena & Jungle Cat), in addition to 9 rare species (Common pipistrelle, lesser Mouse - Eared Bat)

 
     
  Birds
The habitats of the reserve; Oak and pine forests, bare rock and alpine vegetation, cedar groves and mountain streams hold a col¬lection of special birds. (more than 270 species from 370 that exist in Lebanon(The Reserve includes about 270 species of birds, four is globally threatened species (Emberiza cineracea, Falco naumanni), 10 is regionally threatened species (Gyps fulvus, Aquila pomarina), more than 30 breeding species(Accipter brevipes, Gyps fulvus, Alectoris chukar, Upupa epops), in addition to 10 breeding species (Aquila heliaca, Asio otus)

The Reserve includes 27 species of reptiles and amphibians, one is globally threatened species(Chamaeleo chamaeleon), two endemic species (Lacerta media, Lacerta kulzeri), in addition to 2 rare species (Lacerta kulzeri, Elaphe quatuorlineata)
